Season 8 opens with Grenada Night, bringing Grenadian stories and Caribbean cinema to screens.
ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA — The 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival returns for its eighth season, running October 18–25, 2026, continuing a longstanding partnership with Movie Palace in Grand Anse that has helped keep the theatre-going experience alive in Grenada.
Representing 15 countries and territories, the 2026 program spans narrative cinema, documentaries, animation, experimental work, screendance, and features. The selected films explore family memory, migration, folklore, identity, land, and traditions passed down through generations.
The festival will open on Sunday, October 18, with Grenada Night, a dedicated celebration of Grenadian filmmakers and stories rooted in the island.
Among the curated Grenada Night selections are Call of the Jab, a father-and-son journey into Grenada's folklore, forgotten histories, and family memory, and Mighty Mari, a family-centered adventure shaped by a young girl's determination, imagination, and belief. Together, the films reflect the range of Grenadian storytelling, from folklore and intergenerational memory to childhood, family and possibility.
Additional Grenada Night films and program experiences will be announced as they are confirmed.
"Opening with Grenada Night makes a clear statement about what this festival represents," said Meschida Philip, Festival Director. "Grenadian filmmakers deserve to see their work presented to audiences at home, and Grenadian audiences deserve to see their people, communities and experiences reflected on the big screen."
This year's theme, ROOTS: What We Inherit, considers what people carry forward through family, culture, migration and community, drawing on Grenadian history and memory across generations.
Retrospective and community screenings featuring documentaries, archival material and personal testimony connected to Grenadian history will be followed by moderated conversations, creating space for reflection and exchange across generations.
The 2026 edition has received the endorsement of the Grenada National Trust.
