Director: Tolga Akcayli
Tolga Akcayli was born in London, England to a Vincentian mother, Beverley Gunn-Akcayli, and a Turkish father, Tansal Akcayli. He lived the first 5 years of his life in Istanbul, Turkey. His parents decided to return to the Caribbean, where they lived back and forth between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados.
Tolga attempted to study Law and Economics at 2 different universities, and shortly before convincing himself he had no academic future; he taught himself website design and video production in order to pay for film school. A few years of savings later, he enrolled at the New York Film Academy and finally completed his schooling. Tolga convinced some of his classmates to come down to Barbados to attempt to make a feature film. 5 months after graduation, they were all in Barbados filming their first feature film "Too Lickrish."
Tolga's goal is to establish a production company that procures, creates, and distributes narrative films, documentary films, and TV series that focuses on Caribbean stories, culture, and history. Tolga believes not only will it significantly contribute to regional employment, but it will also create channels for international revenue while exporting Caribbean art, culture, and history that can be distributed worldwide.
