SheCreates Caribbean Lab Launches: Where Stories Evolve and Women Lead

Advancing Gender Equity and Regional Collaboration in the Creative Economy

Grenada & Guadeloupe, May 2025 — The Caribbean is breaking new ground in creative innovation with the launch of the SheCreates Caribbean Lab, a 12-week hybrid residency placing Caribbean women at the forefront of immersive storytelling, AI-powered filmmaking, and cultural transformation. Designed as a bold collaboration between Grenada and Guadeloupe, the lab unites creatives from the English-, French-, and Dutch-speaking Caribbean and diaspora to forge new creative pathways and shape the future of media in the region.

The SheCreates Caribbean Residency is the first inter-Caribbean lab designed to empower women creatives through immersive storytelling and AI-driven filmmaking. Grenada leads as the creative production hub, while Guadeloupe brings its strengths as a center of technical expertise. Together, they offer transformative training experiences that position SheCreates as a model for innovation and gender equity in the Caribbean’s creative industries.

Founded by Visionaries Across Borders, the SheCreates Caribbean Lab is led by Meschida Philip, Founder and Creative Director of Mprojekts Creative Group and the 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival, in partnership with Priscilla Delannay, Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Nouveaux Regards Film Festival in Guadeloupe. Together, they are advancing a bold new model that connects women creatives across the English-, French-, and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.

SheCreates is not just a lab—it’s a strategy,” said Philip. “We’re placing Caribbean women at the center of immersive storytelling, AI production, and cultural preservation while building long-term pathways for regional creative growth.

SheCreates is a powerful response to the gaps Caribbean women still face in accessing emerging technologies and international networks,” said Delannay. “With this lab, we are pushing the creative boundaries across languages, islands, and art forms.”

The SheCreates Lab runs from June to August 2025, in three phases:

  1. Virtual Foundations – Training in AI tools, story labs, and immersive media

  2. Residency in Grenada – Hands-on project development, mentorship, and cultural collaboration

  3. Showcase – Final pitch and presentation during the 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival and Nouveaux Regards Film Festival.

Applications are now open to Caribbean women working in film, TV, or digital media—including directors, editors, producers, and creatives with at least two years of experience or a strong portfolio. Applying to the lab is free. If selected, participants will be provided with accommodations during the in-person residency in Grenada. However, travel expenses are not covered.

Deadline to apply: May 20th, 2025

Beyond applicants, SheCreates is actively welcoming mentors, industry collaborators, and creative institutions interested in supporting the next generation of women leaders in culture and tech.

The lab is part of the Creative Caribbean: An Ecosystem of “Play” for Growth and Development, a regional programme funded by UNESCO, CARICOM, the University of the West Indies (UWI), and the European Union (via the ACP-EU Culture Programme). It is designed to strengthen cultural economies, support women in media, and expand opportunities in tech-driven storytelling.
