SheCreates Caribbean Lab: A Bold Collaboration Among Caribbean Women in Film and Tech

Backed by Synapse.Zone, a platform created by Caribbean women for Caribbean creatives, co-founded by Dr. Marielle Barrow Maignan and Kimberley Demagny.

St. George’s, Grenada / New York, NY — May 19, 2025 — In a powerful move toward creative sovereignty, Caribbean women across the region have launched a bold new partnership. SheCreates Caribbean Lab has joined forces with Synapse.Zone, a platform created by Caribbean women for Caribbean creatives, to deliver immersive training in filmmaking, storytelling, and creative technology. The Lab’s mission is clear: to build a decentralized creative ecosystem for Caribbean women—by Caribbean women.

Produced by Mprojekts Creative Group and led by Grenadian filmmaker and Founder of the 1261 Grenada Film Festival, Meschida Philip, in collaboration with Priscilla Delannay of Guadeloupe—Artistic Director of the Nouveaux Regards Film Festival—the SheCreates Caribbean Lab brings together filmmakers, technologists, and educators to deliver transformative, cross-regional creative experiences.

The 2025 edition marks the Caribbean’s first inter-island residency focused on immersive and AI filmmaking. This 12-week hybrid program includes virtual training via Synapse.Zone and a two-week in-person intensive in Grenada, creating a pioneering model for mentorship, co-production, and regional storytelling.

“We are building something deeply intentional—where Caribbean women can expand, explore, and experiment on their own terms,” said Meschida Philip

At the core of Synapse.Zone are two visionary leaders: Dr. Marielle Barrow Maignan, Creative Ecosystem Architect and Founder of Caribbean InTransit, and Kimberley Demagny, award-winning Cultural Strategist and Founder of Caribeart and arTech Education. Together, they have designed Synapse.Zone as a dynamic digital space supporting creative entrepreneurs across languages, cultures, and disciplines.

SheCreates is exactly the kind of initiative Synapse was built for—transformative, community-rooted, and boldly Caribbean,” said Dr. Marielle Barrow Maignan. This partnership is an invitation for women to lead with vision and voice.

Through this partnership, participants of the SheCreates Lab will gain access to a private digital campus featuring collaborative tools, masterclasses, peer forums, and production labs—empowering them to innovate, connect, and co-create across borders.

We built Synapse to bridge creatives across language, culture, and craft,” added Kimberley Demagny. “Partnering with SheCreates is a celebration of what’s possible when Caribbean women come together with intention.”

More than a program, SheCreates Caribbean Lab represents a bold new chapter—where women are shaping the future of film and technology from the inside out.
