Tabanca

The word "Tabanca" is a patois term that is used widely in Trinidad + Tobago, and it refers to various types of heartbreak and longing: the loss of a lover, missing out on a social event, or even pining for a kind of food you can no longer have. Against an alienating backdrop of urban Vancouver, we witness Marlinn's discomfort as the sounds and images of a brighter, warmer, and more affectionate Caribbean world intrude upon their dreams and waking life.
